I just don't get Henderson. He's average to shit at everything, isn't a defensive midfielder isn't an attacking midfielder, isn't good at keeping possession and isn't a great tackler.
Just seems to be very popular in the dressing rooms.

I rate Barkley a lot higher than Henderson.
Barkley has got his whole career ahead of him too and will only get better. Cracking footballer.

Henderson is in there for good now as he has a decent cross on him.
Unfortunately it's mainly all he's got and is pointless without someone like Antonio to get on the end of them, as the rest will only score the headers against gash like Malta who left them unmarked.

Do other countries have this issue with the star players roles reducing?
Many don't have the captain issue as it goes to the player with most caps.
Surely rooney is worth having in the squad and bringing on up top as a sub. If any of our players truly care about playing for England they should be prepared to take a lesser role.

He will eventually not be considered effective for the squad let alone a starting place. He is in the same position with his club. There should be no place for sentiment.

This has happened two years later than it should have, but to be fair to Rooney he seems to have taken it well.
But Henderson as skipper! That is fucking ridiculous. A captain should be a nailed on starter for the side, and there is no way that Henderson is a first pick.

Rooney was OK in one tournament and that is about it, he has done very little over the last 8 years for England forget the mickey mouse qualifiers, I am talking tournaments.

Big mistake on his part moving into midfield. He was a good striker but is an awful midfielder. Just because he has lost a bit of pace doesn't mean there is any reason why he should become a midfielder. Look at Sheringham - he lost a lot of what little pace he had but continued playing as a striker until the end of his career.
